Half Rounds Moulding Catalog

Half-rounds are semicircular patterns that are generally half the thickness of the overall width dimension. These types of profiles can be used for shelf edging, nosing for countertops, battens, decorative enhancements for cabinets, or become creative by utilizing them as an element in a cornice or crown buildup.

Please note: half-round knives cannot be utilized for milling nosings. And vise versa, the reason being, half rounds are generally milled on a top cutter head; the profile knives will come within twenty-thousandths of an inch from the machine bed plates. Bullnose profiles get milled on either the right or left cutterheads. These types of cutters have blend areas built into the knife design. The blend area makes the knives project further by about three-sixteenths of an inch longer than a half-round design. The reason is to blend the top and bottom horizontal straight cutters, so those could not be utilized as half-round cutters on the top spindle because the blend area would crash into the machine bed plates. If you tried to use a half-round knife as a bullnose with no blend area in the design, they would cause cut lines to remain in the finished molding. This unsightly line would leave the product damaged and unsellable.

A few larger-size designs will require multiple sets of profile knives to mill the pattern because of the depth of cut. We can simultaneously mill numerous pieces on the smaller, 3/4", and under. Remember that we recommend anti-kickback devices for this milling operation for safety purposes.
