A cap mould is any profile covering another object of the architectural trim element in a building or structure. Examples include casing, wall partitions, tongue & groove paneling, windows sills, and railings, to name a few. We currently offer over three hundred forty different styles of caps for your consideration and use; some of our picture frame or panel mould designs may also be utilized as a cap moulding. backband patterns are used in conjunction with casing profiles to create a more elegant look that will enhance the beauty and decor of any home or office building. Wall caps cover the top section of a wall or partition; they provide a decorative way of joining the two parallel sides of the border; they can serve as a handrail on shorter type walls. Wainscot caps are horizontal trim pieces covering the end grain of the wainscoting or any other type of paneling where it meets the wall surface. Balustrade caps are like a handrail . They cover the top part of a row of balusters serving as an open parapet, like along the edge of a balcony, terrace, or staircase.

Most designs will have either a rabbet or dado milled into the bottom, or sides of the molding to receive, cover, and cap the element it is merging with. Still, not all drip caps, for instance, will have a small half-circle milled on the bottom edge to direct moisture away from the exterior window sill and wall, protecting the structure from water damage.
