The efficient profile is used in manufacturing bending handrails around radiuses on a staircase; generally, the thicker the slats in the stack, the less of a radius is being bent. It comprises a 7/8" broad straight flat line on top. It's connected to a 1/4" wide by 1/16" tall half-round tongue and groove in the center, joined to a 7/8" broad line segment on the lower portion. The pieces are milled separately, then stacked together and secured. After that process, the lumber is machined again with the shape of the railing milled into the outer pieces of the stacked slats. The outside pieces are often thicker to accommodate the depth of the profile being milled into the side edges of the stacked pieces.
