Handrail 3-1/2" - 23

This functional 3-1/2" - 23 bending rail measures .500" wide by 3.500" tall. The functional profile is used in the manufacturing of bending handrail around radiuses on a stair case, most often the thickness of the slat is determined by the radius being bent, the tighter the radius, the thinner the slats. The detail is composed of a 1-3/8" broad straight flat line on the right, connected to a 1/4" wide by 1/16" tall half-round tongue and groove bead, joined to a 1-7/8" broad segment in the left section in the image above. The pieces are milled separately as shown, then stacked together and secured, after that process the lumber is machined again with the shape of the railing milled into the outer pieces of the stacked slats. The outside pieces are often thicker to accommodate the depth of the profile being milled into the side edges of the stacked pieces.
