On the cutter layout, the maximum depth of the cut is .750", and the maximum height of the cut is fixed at 1.299". For every crown/cove moulding, we design height numbers near the degree bevel on the layout papers we supply. That number must be smaller than the height number, in this case, 1.299", for this knife to be able to cut the entire back bevel; please select a larger size height bevel of the same degree; we have a few options available for your review.
We lay out all our sprung moldings with forty-five-degree back bevels and under to be milled on the right vertical cutter head, and all forty-five-degree back bevels and higher to be milled on the left vertical cutterhead. This custom design practice will save thousands of dollars in manufacturing costs and machine setup time over the years. Please read our commentary about axial constant position for crown moulding bevels. The article will help you dial this profile in axially on the first try when milling this detail, provided the machinery is axially calibrated.
