Tongue & Groove 1-3/4" - 9

This 1-3/4" - 9 tongue & groove hexadecagon measures 1.750" thickness. The width is adjusted to any desired size based on the size of the column you want to produce and the limits of the machinery used to mill the pattern. The sixteen-piece hexadecagon comprises an eleven and one-quarter-degree angle on both sides of a piece of lumber measuring 1-3/4" thickness. The tongue & groove are offset to enable the pattern to be milled horizontally flat with the proper draft angles to keep the integrity of the design within tolerances between sharpening. In the center image, there are two radius lines; the inner one is for milling a nine-inch diameter column, and the outer line is for milling an eleven-inch diameter column.

After machining, these will create a hexadecanoic shape by combining sixteen pieces of lumber. We purposely left eighteen thousand of an inch void in the joint area for glue to escape during fabrication. We recommend using Scotch or 3M # 355 tape for tight joints and easy assembly. After the drying process has been completed, use a small amount of solvent to dissolve the glue on the tape to reduce raising the grain of the lumber.
