Tongue & Groove 1-3/4" - 1

This 1-3/4" - 1 decagon tongue & groove measure 1.750" in thickness, the width can be machined to any desired size, and it will require eight-quarter lumber for milling on an industrial moulder. This profile was created for turning a nine-inch round outside diameter wooden column on a lathe. The inside dimension is 5-7/8" point to point with a 2.793" inside radius. The pattern is milled at a finish dimension of 2.789" wide by 1.750" thickness, laying face down on the bed plates during machining. After milling, the pieces are glued together and banded until dry. There is an extra 1/4" thick squared edge that serves two purposes. The squared edges will make it easy to run thru the machinery, and the left-side guide fence uses that square edge to keep the wood up against the inside fence on the machinery, resulting in near-perfect accuracy. The second reason is when the wood is being turned on the lathe, as soon as the v notch on the outside perimeter is milled away, it reminds the lathe operator that they have reached the nine-inch diameter of the column they are creating. There is about .023" extra on the outside diameter built into the design for finish sanding.
