60 Degree Back Bevel Cutter

60 Degree Back Bevel Cutter

This 60-degree back bevel moulding knife is designed for milling a sixty-degree chamfer (referenced off the outside guide fence on the molder) on the left side of a piece of crown, cove, or bed moulding. These knives create only half the determining factor of the final height and projection of the moldings listed above. The other half of the mathematical equation is generally a degree (in this case thirty) that combined equals ninety degrees or slightly more. This knife design has a maximum depth of cut of 1.000", and the maximum height of cut is fixed at .577". Every crown moulding we layout has height numbers near the side edge of the degree of cut; that number must be smaller than the height number on the above image; in this example, the number is .577" for this knife to be able to properly cut the entire chamfer while milling, if not, select the same degree cutter with greater height number.

We purposely design all our crown mouldings with forty-five-degree bevels and under to milled on the right vertical moulder spindle, and all forty-five degree and higher cuts are milled on the left vertical spindle. This specialized practice will save thousands of dollars in manufacturing costs over the years. Review our commentary about Axial Constant Position for Crown Moulding Bevels, this article will help you dial this profile in axially on the first try when milling this detail on an industrial moulder, provided the moulder is axially calibrated.

For knife quoting purposes, click to open the calculator below; we have added only the important measurements; please enter the appropriate dimension in the boxes provided. A brief detailed explanation on how to use the calculator is located here. Need some assistance with the dimensions? Print a copy of our fraction - decimal - millimeter chart, place it on the molder to help operators save time and increase accuracy during machine setup.

Thickness = 1.625" / Depth of Cut = 1.000" (left cutters).
